Hamlet at the foot of the highest point of the island near the beaches of Sapounohoma.
Ready for a bit of walking? The hamlet of Kalotaritissa (Καλοταρίτισσα) lies at the foot of the island's highest point, Mount Papas (385 m). Nearby are the beaches of Sapounohoma, Messa Ammos and Trypiti, dominated by rocky caves. There's a good taverna (To Mitsos, +30 22850 51522) in the hamlet where you can eat and wait for the bus to the village. Alternatively, take trail no. 1, which takes you from Stavros to this corner of the island, passing through magnificent scenery. Allow 1 hour 15 minutes for the walk.
