APOLLO SHRINE
Ancient site containing temples including the one dedicated to Apollo, a theater and a gymnasium.
Unfortunately, along the Pothea-Panormos road, this ancient site, a central place of political and religious power, included several temples, including the main temple dedicated to Apollo, another in Asclepius, a theatre and a gymnasium whose ruins can be seen today (see also the Archaeological Museum). The first Christians built two basilicas there in the 5th century: the church of Christ of Jerusalem and the church of Saint Sophia, which you can admire from afar because there is a great fear that the gates will be closed when you pass by....
