Route from Massouri to Emporios between sea and mountain passing by Arginonta, Skalia and Kalamies.
The road from Massouri to Emporios is absolutely magical, between the sea and the mountains. Of wild beauty, it snakes, seems to fall steeply into water sometimes overseas, sometimes turquoise, before straightening up on the horizon. From berry to berry, one rarely leaves Telendos' silhouette. To fully enjoy it and stop when you feel like it, it is best to rent a car. This area is also visible from Emporios.
On leaving Massouri, the small village of Arginonta appears in a retreat of the mountain. The emerald bay is bordered by a few houses and a small pebble beach with few visitors.
A little further north, just outside Skalia, a fork on the right takes you to the most isolated part of Kalymnos: continue the paved road to the end and you will fall on the beach of Palionisos, on the east coast of the island. There is a tavern, Taverna Kalidonis, where you will eat well. To really feel like you are alone in the world, you can take a path that goes to the left before reaching Palionisos and leads you to Sykati: a turquoise and translucent arm of the sea, magnificently isolated.
Back on the road to Emporios, Kalamies offers a small quiet cove with a pebble beach shaded by large tamarisk trees, with a somewhat bohemian atmosphere. We owe this unique atmosphere to the pleasant beach bar: in this crazy setting, we feel like we are on a Caribbean island, in a pirate haven.
