This beautiful 18th century fortified monastery is accessed by a stone staircase that climbs up the mountain in 400 steps, the view is superb once you reach the top. Beyond, the trail crosses a magnificent plateau that evokes wild Celtic landscapes and leads to the solitary monastery. The inner courtyard is paved with beautiful Byzantine pebble mosaics. An opening in the floor of the chapel gives access to an underground crypt and the remains of Saint Charalambos.
