MUSEUMS
Acropolis on the heights of Mandraki with important portals and views of the sea and bay.
The Archaeological Museum exhibits the earliest traces of human settlement (4th millennium BC) through to the Classical and Hellenistic periods. The island's heyday was in the 4th century B.C.: you'll see many jewels, sarcophagi and objects from this period. The museum's janitor is an enthusiast who will be delighted to give you explanations.
The folk museum is housed in a traditional 18th-century house at the foot of the monastery. Look out for the 1930s-50s photos of galas organized by Nissiros immigrants to the USA.
