Leave the coast and climb up the mountainside: the roads with sharp curves offer splendid panoramas before crossing the highlands of the hinterland to the agricultural village of Pitious. Here you should not miss the Makelos tavern, famous all over the island for its fresh hand-rolled pasta (you will see the women working on the large tables inside), its stews and grilled local goat or its kopaniskopites (small cheese fillings baked in the oven) and squash boureki (filled and fried).
