BYZANTIN MUSEUM
Museum in the city center with a small collection of icons and other religious objects
The museum houses a beautiful collection of icons from the Byzantine period, a collection begun in secret by Archbishop Kleomvrotos' predecessor who found it in 1958. He opened the museum in 1978, in front of the church of St. Therapon, with its unmistakable dome, which has an architecture typical of the eclectic style that prevailed at the end of the 19th century. Apart from the permanent collection of icons, visitors can see carved wooden doors, precious liturgical vestments, manuscripts and sacred ritual objects.
