MAVRI RACHI
It is on this black ridge that rises south of the bay of Psara that the Psariotes installed the ancient citadel or Paleokastro from where the last resistants to the massacre of Psara by the Ottomans, in 1824, were sacrificed. It is said that they blew themselves up with the last of their ammunition, hence the burnt color of this hill where a memorial ceremony is held every year in late June. Don't miss to climb up to the church which dominates: the view on the bay of Psara, on the Aegean and on the imposing church Agios Nikolaos is splendid at the end of the day.
