SAINTE-MARTINE CHURCH
One of the few churches dedicated to Saint Martine, built on a mound between the and centuries in Pont-du-Château.
This church, one of the few dedicated to Saint Martine, a 3rd-century Roman martyr, was built between the 12th and 14th centuries, on a hill overlooking the merchant fleet district. Formerly the priory of the Laveine monastery, the church's western section and nave, with its fine capitals, are Romanesque. The hemicyclic chevet is of simple construction. The polychrome decoration was restored in 1994. A fine wooden pulpit dating from 1700 has been preserved. The Romanesque parts are in arkose, while the bell tower, restored in the 19th century, is in Volvic stone.
