MUSÉE DE LA BATELLERIE D'ALLIER PIERRE-MONDANEL (MUSEUM OF INLAND WATERWAY TRANSPORT)
Museum retracing the history of river navigation in the Pont-du-Château region and evoking the history and uses of the river.
Housed in the château's former kitchens, this museum pays tribute to Pierre Mondanel, a local historian who traced the history of river navigation in the region. It recalls the major role played by Pont-du-Château, a major port in Auvergne, with the only bridge over the Allier between the Haute-Loire and Allier rivers. The museum traces the history and uses of the river, and devotes a space to bitumen mining in the commune. Visitors can enjoy a fine view from the terrace.
