ST. GEORGE'S CASTLE
Castle with panoramic view overlooking the bay of Argostili and the south of Kefalonia.
St. George's Castle is well worth a visit, dominating the entire southern part of the island and Argostoli Bay. The 360° panoramic view is well worth the detour! The castle was the island's administrative center until the 18th century, when the capital became Argostoli. The Byzantines, Franks and Turks succeeded one another before the Venetians took control of the castle with the help of the Invincible Armada and the inhabitants of Cephalonia. The Venetians consolidated the fortifications, and the castle was completed in 1545.
