MYCENAEAN TOMB
Tomb of the Mycenaean period preserving treasures, jewels and potteries.
In the village of Tzanata lies a Mycenaean tomb, 6.8 m in diameter, dating from the 14th century B.C. It was found by a Swiss commander, De Bosset, in 1813, during work on future roads. A Greek archaeologist from the island, Panagis Kavadias, resumed excavations in 1899. The size and height of the site testify to the importance of the Mycenaean civilization on the island. In this royal tomb, treasures, jewels and pottery were found and are now preserved in the Argostoli Archaeological Museum.
