Restored monastery in Anoghi with cells to rest in silence
The monastery is located 566 meters above sea level, 3.5 km south of the village. The actual date of its foundation remains unknown, but it was restored in 1696 and remained active until the 1980s. There are two versions of how the monastery was built: the first states that peasants went to the area to burn "kathara" (wild grass and thorns), found the icon of the Virgin Mary and decided to build a church there. Another church connects the monastery with the Catholic parish of Kathara.
