Monastery built by the monk Vèniamin Kontrakis on a sanctuary dedicated to Artemis or Hera
According to tradition, the apostle St. Paul preached here, and inside you'll find a church dedicated to St. Paul and St. Peter. A museum traces the living history of the site. The monastery was probably built on an ancient sanctuary, perhaps dedicated to Artemis or Hera. On the beautiful hill that crowns the town of Lefkada, it overlooks the bay. Deer, geese, parrots and turtles are also kept on site in a specially equipped area.
