BYZANTIN MUSEUM
Museum with a magnificent collection of icons from the 17th century in Zakynthos.
This neoclassical building houses a magnificent collection of 17th century icons and various religious objects saved from destruction in 1953. Some 800 works are recorded and allow the visitor to form an impression of the influence of the Ionian Islands in Western art. Special mention should be made of the Litanies of the Relic of Saint Charalambos painted by Yannakis Korais. In recent years, the Zakynthos Museum has been a place of activities that has reinforced its role as a cultural centre with exhibitions of works by contemporary artists.
