ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
A collection of ancient objects in a museum near the Eternal Poetry Square in Skyros.
This nice little museum exhibits a collection of prehistoric and ancient objects found in the northern half of the island. Skyros was inhabited as early as the Neolithic period (5500-2800 B.C.) and prospered in the early Bronze Age as evidenced by the finds at the site of Palamari. It reached the peak of its ancient prosperity during the Mycenaean period (1650-1100 B.C.), from which you will see magnificent pottery. The ancient collection covers the classical and Roman periods. In the quiet courtyard, you can admire sculptures from various periods.
