Time difference Prague

Prague is in the GMT + 1 time zone, so the time in the Czech capital is the same as in France. The changeover from summer to winter time and vice versa takes place on the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October.

Opening hours Prague

To see / To do Prague

Most museums in Prague are closed on Mondays and public holidays. Opening hours are generally between 9am and 5pm, but some sites offer a "night" day with a later opening time of 7pm or 9pm, usually on Wednesdays or Thursdays. Note that we note the closing times of the sites but that the ticket offices in museums and large sites generally close 1 hour before.

Enjoying yourself Prague

Times are pretty much the same as in France, with the exception of dinner, which Czechs generally eat earlier, especially on weekends when they go to the theater or the opera. They eat before going to the show, so that some restaurants are deserted from 8.30pm onwards. After the show, it's the hospodas that fill up, and the beer flows freely. Restaurants often serve non-stop between 11.30am and 10pm.

For meals, restaurants close early: it's hard to find restaurants for tourists after 10 or 10.30pm, and it's hard to get service in a Czech tavern after 9pm.

Take a break Prague

Coffee shops and tea rooms are generally open every day from 8am to 5pm or 6pm. Off-season tourism, you can find the door closed on some days. Bars open later, from 11am or even 5pm for some establishments exclusively at night. Most traditional schools close their doors at 1am.

(To) please yourself Prague

Most stores are open Monday to Friday until 7pm, with no break for lunch. Some smaller stores open on Saturday mornings.

In tourist areas, or if the store is tourist-oriented, the doors also open on Sundays, but with shorter opening hours, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or only on Sunday mornings.

In the city center, at the height of the tourist season, you'll find souvenir and craft stores open 7 days a week. In the Jewish quarter, synagogues and shops are closed on Saturdays.

The large shopping centers of Flora and Nové Smíchov in Prague close only for a few hours at night. They are open 7 days a week, from 8am to midnight.

Get out Prague

Pubs usually open in the late morning (or in the afternoon for some) and stay open until 1am. Most of the small discos in the old town close at 3 or 4 am, while the most famous ones, on Wenceslas or Charles Bridge, stay open until dawn. The beginning of the week is generally quieter, but the nightlife comes alive from Thursday on.
