PLAZA DE ESPAÑA
A huge circular square, now pedestrianized, not far from the port, home to the Palacio Insular, the town hall).
Santa Cruz is centred on this huge circular square not far from the port. In the center, a massive cross marks the site of the Monumento de Los Caidos, dedicated to the dead of General Franco's forces during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). Still on the plaza, the administrative heart of the island, you'll notice the Palacio Insular, which houses the offices of the cabildo (the municipality), the Nuestra Señora de la Concepción church and the Archaeological Museum. The Plaza de España is now pedestrianized, as is the adjoining Plaza de Candelaria.
