Declared of international tourism interest, the carnival of Puerto de la Cruz is one of the most entrenched carnivals on the island. Even when these parties were banned, the inhabitants were still in a position to hijack this ban, so far as to call them the «winter feasts» so that they could take place. This carnival is famous for the "sardine burial" which takes place on the Cendres Wednesday of the Carnival and the coso of the carnival which takes place the following Saturday in which, apart from many groups, tanks, dancers and musicians (comparsas, murgas, etc.).
