Dragon tree of 16 m height and 20 m circumference considered a natural, cultural and historical symbol of the Canary Islands

The drago milenario is an extraordinary and fascinating tree, one of the Canaries' most important natural, cultural and historical symbols. The drago milenario is 16 m high and 20 m in circumference, and is said to be almost 800 years old. A multitude of small trunks intertwine to form a sort of "bouquet of branches", then branch out to form multiple palm heads. The dragon tree was already venerated in Guanche mythology; according to some rock drawings found, it has fuelled numerous local legends and continues to fascinate visitors. The dragon tree(Dracaena Draco Canariensis) is an emblematic species endemic to Macaronesia that has almost disappeared in the wild but is cultivated and planted. The longevity of this species is incredible. A dragon tree over 5,000 years old was even destroyed by a hurricane in La Orotava in 1868!

This dragoner, a tree called "millenary", sees himself very well from the church terrace and it is better to photograph it on the dive. He would be between 600 and 800 years old! Other trees in the park including a Ficus Macrophyll near the stairs.
