Top of the green Masca Gorge having multiple cliffs and deeper caves
It's the second most visited natural site on Tenerife, after the Teide, but accidents had become all too frequent, sometimes with serious consequences for visitors. That's why it took three years of closure and over 1.5 million euros to develop a better trail and signage. In addition to safety, the conservation of this natural heritage was also the major challenge of this renovation. Indeed, while this barranco (ravine), located in the Teno rural park, offers breathtaking landscapes and views, it is also an enclave that shelters very fragile ways of life (animals, birds, flora, etc.), some of which are found only in this area. To regulate visits, the visitor center at Masca has been renovated. Located in the center of the village of Masca (+34 822 14 38 90), it gives you a better understanding of the landscape you see and discover. And from now on, it will be your starting point. At the same time, an essential pre-booking platform has been put online (www.caminobarrancodemasca.com). Visits are now regulated and subject to a daily quota of 75 people. Please note that only ascents and descents are permitted (not in the opposite direction). You'll find the schedule on the website, as well as the minimum requirements: helmet, walking shoes and good physical condition. Allow 10 km in total and 7 hours for the ascent, which is more difficult.
