SAN LUIS CONVENT
Franciscan convent transformed into renovated administrative offices and classified as an artistic historical monument
This Franciscan convent was built by Bishop Juan de Toledo in 1665, in honor of St. Louis, who was an illustrious bishop of Toulouse, France. The convent was destroyed by fire in 1745, but the Santísimo, a wooden statue of San Francisco, was saved from the flames, along with a small part of the archives. The building was rebuilt identically and, from the 19th century onwards, converted into administrative offices. A new fire destroyed the building some ten years ago, but it has now been renovated and classified as an Artistic Historic Monument.
