HOLY CROSS CHURCH

Of Carolingian inspiration, it is one of the oldest Romanesque churches in Auvergne. Its nave, the altar of the Virgin Mary, the transept and the choir date back to the 11th century. The side bays and wall paintings date from the 12th and 15th centuries, and together make it a remarkable site. Built in 985 and now classified as a Historic Monument, it is also credited with the national primacy of tests in the construction of Romanesque vaults. A first phase of restoration has just been completed and has enabled the discovery of frescos that are still unsuspected.
