OPME GARDENS
Italian-style terraced gardens created in 1613 by Antoine de Ribeyre at Romagnat.
These French-style gardens were created in 1613 by Antoine de Ribeyre. With their superimposed terraces in an Italian taste, they extend the 11th century castle, one of the oldest in the region. The first terrace hosts a circular pool. The second terrace is reached by a double staircase, topped by a balustrade. The beds are planted in geometrical figures, made of flowers, fruit trees and vegetables. Here again, a magnificent fountain with two basins from 1617 is an extension of the first basin. It is attributed to Jacques Androuet du Cerceau, the architect who designed the Place des Vosges and began work on the Pont Neuf.
