SCULPTURES AND BEACHES
Beaches with a new auditorium and an open-air sculpture park with selected new works
Strolling through the city, one discovers an open-air sculpture park. Inaugurated on Avenida Maritima, it is enriched each autumn by new works selected during the annual festival dedicated to it, the Simposio Internacional de Escultura. Note that new materials are now imposed on participants such as Betencuria stone or Iroko wood. Today, we even propose a 26-stop tour that will take you to the Caracolas (shells) of the paseo maritime, the statue of Miguel de Unamuno or the goats, historical emblems of the island, as examples. In 2019, two new sculptures were added to the park, which now boasts nearly 200 works, including the Jeu du Palo, a tribute to this ancestral activity. The city is not full of architectural wonders, but you can take a walk from the church. From there, we will pass by the Unamuno house and then gently descend towards the paseo maritime following the Primero de Mayo where the terraces can be used as a stopover before arriving at Playa Chica. As its name suggests, it's small, but you can swim in it. You can continue along the Paseo Marítim, on the left to discover its ceramics, or opt for the right and the seafront, and then discover the new auditorium whose silhouette blends pleasantly with the surrounding curves and the lime kilns that line the route. The bravest will reach the Playa Blanca in Puerto del Rosario, a few kilometres away.
