MOLINO DE ANTIGUA AND CHEESE MUSEUM
Complex housing a windmill classified as a monument of cultural interest and a museum hosting cultural activities
This complex of the Antigua molino allows to know better two particularly emblematic elements of the culture majorera: its windmills and its cheese. And brings together different elements giving the opportunity for a beautiful walk of several hours. First of all, this complex is home to a windmill that was classified as a monument of cultural interest in 1994, as were the twenty-two other mills on the island of Fuerteventura. Part of the island's museum network, it houses several exhibition halls that provide information on the importance of Antigua in the production and trade of grain. These windmills arrived in Fuerteventura at the end of the 18th century, when the island was used as a granary for other islands such as Tenerife, Gran Canaria and La Palma. In the village of Antigua, many bourgeois houses, some of which have been restored, also bear witness to the prosperity of the rich families of owners who marketed the grain, wheat and gofio to other islands. This museum also hosts cultural activities and a craft shop. The second element of this complex is the majorero cheese museum. Around a central courtyard, it offers different thematic areas: a general presentation of Fuerteventura; a room dedicated to the local native goat and a room dedicated to the cheese itself, which can be tasted and bought. All surrounded by beautiful gardens with many cacti.
