ST. LÉGER'S CHURCH
This Romanesque church was part of a priory belonging to the Abbey of Mozac, not far from Riom.
Built on the site of a 7th-century monastery, this Romanesque church was part of a priory belonging to the Abbey of Mozac, not far from Riom. The crypt dates from the 10th century, the nave and fortifications from the 12th, and the machicolated bell tower from 1830. Its originality lies in its fortified architecture, which contrasts with the interior. Sculpted in the warm hues of arkose, its capitals are decorated mainly with plant motifs and stylized leaves. The two roses in the flat chevet and transept are Gothic in style.
