MONTPELOUX VOLCANO
A volcano with mineral cliffs measuring nearly 70 meters high and overlooking a lake located in the heart of the crater.
This volcano was for a long time used as a promontory for a fortress, before being nibbled away little by little by the works of a basalt quarry. They allow us today to penetrate in its crater, 18 million years old. The mineral cliffs which surround it measure nearly 70 meters high and overhang a lake located in the heart of the crater. On the tourist side, it now hosts a discovery trail, guided tours and a summer cultural program in a real open-air theater, which is very successful every year.
