CASTILLO DE SANTA BARBARA - MUSEO DE LA PIRATERIA
To the south of the city, perched on the summit of Guanapay facing an incredible landscape, this Museum is located in the imposing Castillo de Santa Barbara built in the 16th century. It was designed to monitor and protect the island from possible pirate attacks. Because at that time Teguise was the capital of the island! The site is perfectly preserved. This modest museum evokes the history and memory of Canary Islands emigrants who left for North and Latin America, including the creation by Lanzarote residents of the city of San Antonio, Texas, in the late 18th century, through moving documents and photographs. Not to mention the whole story about the attacks of these famous pirates. We will admire their sea ships there.
