Janubio salt mines still in activity, a traditional source of work and activity for the island
Leaving Playa Blanca and heading towards El Golfo you can see the Janubio saltworks, surrounded by lava fields. Still active, they are a traditional source of work and activity for the island. Depending on the state of evaporation in the settling tanks, the salines take on different shades, from purple to green and pink. Once used by fish canneries, salt is now used in cooking. The Mirador de las Salinas restaurant overlooks a panoramic view.
