Tunnel with a varied and chaotic architecture having spacious rooms and tortuous corridors
The Cueva de los Verdes is a spectacular geological formation, a must for visitors to Lanzarote. It is an underground part of the Corona volcano, formed according to geologists between 3,000 and 5,000 years ago. The 6 km long tunnel connects the sea with the foot of the volcano. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the cavity served as a refuge for the island's inhabitants against invasions by cazadores and Berber pirates. More than 1 km has been laid out for the visit. On the walls you will see mineral sculptures of lava stalactites, folds and cracks in the ground that bear witness to the passage of the lava. The architecture of this tunnel is varied and chaotic, with spacious rooms and tortuous corridors. The cueva sometimes communicates with another superimposed tube. Shapes and colours are beautifully enhanced by the artist majorero Jesus Soto: the lighting accentuates the relief and the reddish tones that the rock sometimes takes on. The musical background, quite mystical, is however inaudible, because the visit, which lasts almost an hour, is necessarily done in a group and the surrounding hubbub breaks the magic of the place a little. It's a pity. Stay in front near the guide from the start of the walk to avoid the noise of the group and understand something during the visit. Also remember to wear shoes that adhere well.
As surprising as it may seem in such a place, classical music concerts are programmed in the largest hall of the cave, sometimes accompanied by wine.

Un très beau site naturel, bien mis en valeur, comme souvent à Lanzarote.
Le guide est intéressant mais il n'y a pas de version en français malheureusement.
