This library, the oldest in Australia (1826), boasts a fine collection of books, manuscripts and historical maps. There is also a wide selection for children (in English). It includes Captain Cook's diary and the logbook of Captain Bligh, captain of the famous Bounty. Some 6 million items are on display, tracing the country's history. Exhibitions are held there on a regular basis.
