DUMP TRUCK
Hut built in 1790 for Bennelong, a captive who maintained a deep affection for Governor Arthur Phillip.
In 1788 and 1789, the British made an effort to learn the customs of the local native population. They hoped that by capturing a few natives, they could train them in English and make them intermediaries between the two English and Aboriginal cultures. Among these captives was Bennelong, who had a deep affection for Governor Arthur Phillip. In 1790, Bennelong, nostalgic for his tribe, asked Phillip to build him a hut on the present site of the Opera House.
