VAUCLUSE HOUSE
One of Australia's most remarkable historic buildings, it was once the home of Charles Wentworth.
This house and the 7.5 hectares surrounding it is one of the most remarkable historic buildings in Australia. It was the home of Charles Wentworth (born 1790, son of a convict) who was part of the expedition that successfully crossed the Blue Mountains. He co-founded the first independent newspaper in the new colony, The Australian, in 1824. Wentworth lived in this house from 1828 to 1862. The most peculiar aspect of the house is the lack of a front door and the staircase that leads nowhere.
