ARGYLE CUT
Deep cut in the gré linking Millers Point to The Rocks, built by convicts from primary materials.
It is a deep cut in the sandstone that leads from Millers Point to The Rocks. During the 1840's, Millers Point was a warehouse only accessible via Kent Street, an arduous journey for convicts. In 1843, the government decided to create a direct link to Millers Point from The Rocks. Convicts were tasked with this titanic task using primitive tools to dig into the hard sandstone. Laboriously, the work was finally completed between 1867-1868 by the Sydney City Council.
