Square in the business district, home to several major banks and famous buildings (MLC Centre, General Post Office)
Martin Place is located in the center of the business district. It was built in 1971 in honor of Sir James Martin, 3 times Prime Minister of New South Wales. It became pedestrianized in 1980 and is home to several large banks and famous buildings in Sydney, such as the former General Post Office (GPO), now #1 Martin Place, and the MLC Centre. It also features a War Memorial in honor of the ANZAC soldiers who died for the country during the First World War, and all Australians who died during the different conflicts.
