PLACE SILVER
The square is home to restored detached and semi-detached houses in a mix of Colonial, Georgian and Regency styles.
The name Argyle was chosen by Governor Macquarie in 1810 in honor of his home region in Scotland (Argyll). Many streets, buildings and places in Millers Point and The Rocks bear this name. The houses near the square, built around 1830 and later, are typical of the period. There are also a few Victorian terraced houses dating from the late 19th century. On Lowerfort Street, across from Garrison Church, single and semi-detached houses have been restored in a mixture of Colonial, Georgian and Regency styles.
