TANK STREAM TOWER
This "spring reservoir", now underground, was Sydney's first water supply.
Literally "the reservoir of the spring", it was the origin of Sydney's first water supply. When Captain Arthur Phillip arrived, he chose to settle at Circular Quay partly because of the fresh water that flowed there. By 1826, The Stream reservoir was no longer a source of drinking water but a sewer that flowed into the harbour. Later, the reservoir was covered with sandstone blocks and the city expanded over it.
Today, the Tank Stream is still underground and can only be reached through a 60 meter tunnel.
