MOUNT YORK
A 1,061 m high mountain that enabled William Lawson and William Wentworth to find a passage to colonize the western part of the continent.
This mountain located at 1 061 m of altitude is an important page of the Australian adventure. It is indeed from here, in 1813, 25 years after the arrival of the first fleet in Sydney, that Gregory Blaxland, William Lawson and William Wentworth "saw" for the first time the passage which was going to be able to be traced to cross the Blue Mountains and to colonize the west of the continent.
All the roads that were started (including the Coxs Road) across Mount York had to be abandoned in favor of what is now the Great Western Hwy.
