THE CORRECTIVE SERVICES NSW MUSEUM
Museum recounting the history of New South Wales prisons since 1788, containing chains, irons, handcuffs, padlocks, weapons...
Cooma Prison was built in 1870, closed in 1900, reopened in 1957, closed in 1998... and reopened again in 2001! The adjoining museum tells the story of New South Wales prisons since 1788. There are objects (chains and irons, handcuffs, padlocks, convicts' hoods, weapons and bayonets...), photos and documents related to this history. Note that the visit is guided by one of the prisoners of today, under the supervision of a guard.
