AFGHAN MOSQUE MUSEUM
This rust-coloured, corrugated iron building was erected by Indian camel-drivers from two provinces of Pakistan
Built in 1891, it has been maintained by the Broken Hill Historical Society since 1967 and remains a place of worship. The Afghans who built this corrugated iron and rust-colored building were in fact Indian camel drivers from two provinces of Pakistan. It is interesting to recall that the Afghan camel drivers and their mounts played a crucial role in the exploration expeditions of the Outback, during the construction of the railroads and the establishment of the land telegraph that linked Australia to London.
