CAPE BYRON LIGHTHOUSE
The Byron Bay lighthouse is the town's landmark and has been keeping watch over the surrounding area since 1901, preventing shipwrecks. You can walk to it from the town center, which takes about 45 minutes and is a very pleasant stroll. Access by car is subject to a charge (AU$10 per hour). The view over Byron Bay and Arakwal National Park is breathtaking. There's a small café on site where you can enjoy a snack while taking in the view. The lighthouse can be visited between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Volunteers organize the tour, and a donation ("gold coin") is recommended.
