COURT HOUSE MUSEUM
One of the oldest buildings in Queensland, this Port Douglas establishment was the city's first courthouse
Port Douglas Court House, built in 1879, was the city's first courthouse. Today it is one of the oldest buildings in Queensland: in 1859, when Queensland separated from New South Wales, the state had very few courthouses in its new colony. Built in wood and on four levels, it was renovated in 1911 after a cyclone. Visit also the small wooden church St. Mary's by the Sea with, from the inside, a superb view of the sea. Since 1997, the building has been transformed into a museum.
