Cooktown Museum
Museum to find a vast collection of local Guugu Yimithirr objects, an original anchor and cannon from the HMB Endeavour, etc.
Discover Cooktown's rich history in this magnificent 19th-century convent. Built in 1888-1889, this three-storey building served as a school until the 1940s. Formerly the James Cook Museum, it was refurbished in 2020 to proudly tell the stories and other fascinating anecdotes of the region. The museum houses an extensive collection of local Guugu Yimithiir artefacts, from the far north of Queensland, as well as an anchor and cannon from the HMB Endeavour and a model of the ship dating from the early 20th century.
