LONGREACH SCHOOL OF DISTANCE EDUCATION

It is the radio school for the 250 students in the region, spread over 403,000 km². She can take care of students up to the age of 16. The children come once a year to Longreach to put a face to their teacher's voice. The school is open to visitors and it is very moving to hear a small child's voice coming from the isolation of the bush, sometimes thousands of kilometres away. Many farmers cannot afford to hire ringers and drovers to gather cattle scattered over hundreds of kilometres in the Outback, so sometimes students interrupt their lessons for a fortnight to help their parents at the musterring.
