JIM JIM AND TWIN FALLS
A signposted park, accessible only by a 55 km 4x4 trail, featuring spectacular waterfalls.
Jim Jim and Twin Falls are the park's two most famous waterfalls. They must be earned, as access is very difficult, only by a 55 km 4x4 track (allow at least an hour by 4x4): the last five require a bit of experience, with sand, rocks and sometimes bodies of water to cross. The last kilometer to Jim Jim is on foot. You can swim in the Jim Jim Falls pool, but be sure to read the signs indicating the presence or absence of crocodiles. Relax on a small beach. The climb to the top of the falls is quite steep and rocky, so you'll need to be light on your feet, agile and in good physical condition. In fact, it's more climbing than walking... So it can be difficult for the elderly, people with reduced mobility or small children. On arrival, however, you'll be rewarded with a spectacular view of Kakadu and the Falls. You can then jump or dive into the icy water! There's currently no swimming at Twin Falls (this is due to change in 2025), but a 6 km hike, the Twin Falls Escarpment Walk, offers superb views of the falls. Camping is possible on site, with showers and toilets. Group tours are possible, for example with Kakadu Tours and Travel. If you'd like to see the waterfalls from a totally different angle, you can do so by air by booking a flight (check out Kakadu Air!).
