CAPE DON EXPERIENCE
Garig Gunak Barlu National Park is a protected area on the Cobourg Peninsula in Australia's Northern Territory. Created in 2000, it combines the former Gurig National Park and Cobourg Marine Park. With a surface area of 2,260 km², it is considered an area of international importance due to its significant wetlands. Indeed, it was the first park in the world to be declared under the Ramsar Convention. The park is home to a wide variety of ecosystems, from sandy beaches to mangroves and coral reefs. Its marine fauna is particularly rich, with the presence of many Australian species as well as rare species such as dugongs and sea turtles. On land, the park is renowned for its birdwatching, with over 200 different species recorded. Visitor activities include hiking, fishing, photography and wildlife observation. The park is accessible by plane, boat or car (4x4 only). There are two campsites and a hotel nearby.
