Litchfield National Park, around 120 km south-west of Darwin, is a must-see if you're in Australia's Top End. The park covers some 1,500 km2 and offers a multitude of breathtaking landscapes. You'll find several magnificent waterfalls tumbling into crystal-clear pools, as well as iconic magnetic termite formations and eroded sandstone pillars. The park is also an important place for the Koongurrukun, Mak Mak Marranunggu, Werat and Warray aboriginal peoples, whose ancestral spirits have shaped the landscape. Activities in the park include swimming in the various natural pools, hiking, camping and waterside picnics. Some areas of the park are accessible by 4x4. Please note that access to the park requires a pass. To make the most of your visit, it's also advisable to familiarize yourself with the park's safety rules and regulations.
