THE BLOCK ARCADE
Superb gallery decorated with numerous mosaics, tiles, stained glass windows, beautifully carved stonework and wrought-iron elements.
Built in 1892 by architect David C. Askew, this beautiful gallery is one of the most richly decorated interior spaces in Melbourne, with numerous mosaics, tile and glass windows, wrought iron features and beautiful carved stonework. Once known as Lane Carpenter, it was the popular name for the neighborhood, The Block, that was eventually retained by history. This Victorian-era arcade is, along with the Royal Arcade, one of the city's must-see tourist spots. It is also a place for shopping.
