Cape Willoughby Conservation Park is home to the oldest operational lighthouse in South Australia. It was the first to be built in South Australia, dating from 1852. This site is rich in maritime history; from the lives of the original keepers to the ships that were wrecked off its picturesque coastline. Take in the magnificent views from Cape Willoughby.
Convenience. Access to the lighthouse is only available on a tour. No one under the age of 4 is allowed to climb unless they are wearing an approved harness or backpack. Access to the lighthouse balcony may be limited during extreme weather conditions. Access involves climbing stairs.
Good to know: Lighthouse Cottages are closed during the winter for maintenance.
Historical tour of the lighthouse (45 min, includes lighthouse climb). A walking tour of the Cape Willoughby Lighthouse Station from the Cape Willoughby Visitor Center. Guides will lead you around the site as they tell you about the fascinating history of Cape Willoughby from the time of the original settlement to the present day. You'll see a First Order Lantern, an interactive experience; and finish with a climb to the top of the lighthouse.
Express Tour (20 min). Starting at the base of the lighthouse, the guide will walk with you up the 102 steps to the top of South Australia's oldest lighthouse. Take in the breathtaking views from the top while listening to the history of the lighthouse.
